HUMAN-DIRECTED
HYBRID FILMMAKING

Traditional Filmmaking · Virtual Production · Generative AI

We don't ask AI to make films.
We use new filmmaking tools to make the films we want to make.

§ 01

What We Mean by Hybrid Filmmaking

DELTMÅNE is an independent film agency and development studio. Our starting point is the story: its characters, dramatic intention and cinematic language.

We are developing an approach that brings traditional filmmaking, virtual production and generative AI into a shared creative process. The combination is shaped by each project, with human direction guiding how the tools are used and which results become part of the work.

Hybrid filmmaking means choosing the appropriate method for a scene or shot. It can connect actors, cameras and physical locations with digital environments, visual effects and selected generative elements. A project may use one method or several; technology serves the film's creative needs.

§ 02

Human Direction Comes First

Concept, screenplay, character development, performance direction, mise-en-scène and visual language are creative responsibilities. In our approach, they remain with the filmmakers.

Generative tools can produce alternatives, explore environments or help prototype a sequence. The creative team sets the intention, evaluates the results, rejects what does not work and shapes the material through revision, selection and editing.

Human creative control continues through post-production and final approval, within the responsibilities agreed for each project and its production partners.

One Project Different Tools

§ 03

Each shot has a purpose. Its production method should follow that purpose, the available resources and the requirements of the project.

Real
Actors, cameras, lighting, practical sets and locations: the physical craft of filmmaking.
Virtual
Digital environments and real-time tools for planning or capturing scenes within a virtual production workflow.
Generative
Selected AI-assisted images, moving images or other elements, developed through human briefs, iteration and review.
Hybrid
A combination of filmed, virtual and generative material, brought together through editing, compositing and post-production.

Possible applications include concept visualisation, previsualisation, scene prototypes, environments and set extensions. Their use in a finished production depends on creative suitability, technical quality, rights review and partner requirements. Cost and scheduling are assessed for the specific workflow.

A Responsible Production Pipeline

Creative choices need a documented production process. Our Generative Production & Rights Master Protocol provides a framework for reviewing source material, intended uses and the human decisions behind selected assets.

The framework covers provenance, input and output rights, permissions and consent where relevant, the use of a person's likeness or voice, tool terms, and disclosure. Asset records are intended to connect source materials and versions with review decisions and the intended destination of the work.

Before production or delivery, the proposed workflow and its documentation need to be reviewed against the applicable requirements of producers, broadcasters, distributors and other partners. Development approval does not automatically clear an asset for commercial release.

Read our public Production & Rights Protocol →

The protocol supports that review. It is not a certification of every asset, a guarantee of copyright protection or a promise of acceptance by a broadcaster or funding body.

§ 05

From Development to Production

Our current work centres on original project development: writing, dramaturgy, visual exploration and proof of concept. These materials help communicate a project's tone and test cinematic ideas before production decisions are made.

As a project moves towards production, this development work can inform the collaboration with actors, cinematographers, production designers, virtual production specialists and post-production teams. The final mix of methods is established with the project's partners, budget and delivery requirements.

A concept sequence demonstrates a creative direction. It does not, by itself, establish a final production method or represent a completed, commissioned film or series.

SKYGGEN — Visual Development

A project in development

SKYGGEN · Existing project key art

SKYGGEN is a Nordic psychological drama in development at DELTMÅNE. The project's existing key art and concept videos offer a point of reference for its visual exploration.

They are presented as development materials. They should not be read as evidence of a completed hybrid production, confirmed casting or broadcaster commissioning.

Our Principle

Technology does not direct the film.
The filmmaker directs the technology.
